Yahoo is going to close the Yahoo UK & Ireland directory

The Yahoo! UK & Ireland Directory will be shutting down on 18th of November 2010.

What will happen to my Directory Submit listing?
You have two options if you currently have an open order for a site listed under the Regional/Countrie/United Kingdom category path of the Yahoo! Directory:
  1. You may continue to maintain your listing through the US based Directory Submit program. Your site will remain listed in the Directory as it is now, and the applicable annual fee will apply on your anniversary date. No further action on your behalf would be required.
  2. You may request a refund of the most recent fee you paid as part of the Directory Submit program. Your Directory Submit order will be closed immediately, and your site will then be removed from the Yahoo! Directory. If you wish to proceed with this option, please email cc-directory-submit-billing-e2y@cc.yahoo-inc.com with the Order ID, your YahooID, and the URL of your listing. In order to take advantage of this refund, Yahoo! must receive a fully completed request no later than 5 pm PDT on November 18th, 2010. Otherwise, Yahoo! will conclude that you have selected the first option.
Yahoo customers and users in the UK and Ireland regions will still be able search the web for sites   on   http://uk.yahoo.com/. The Yahoo! Directory at http://dir.yahoo.com still exists and lists many sites from this area of the world (http://dir.yahoo.com/Regional/Countries/United_Kingdom/) and (http://dir.yahoo.com/Regional/Countries/Ireland/). If you choose to maintain your listing, your site will still be listed in the Yahoo! Directory.

Isn't Bing going to power Yahoo now?

This is unfortunate. However, it seems easy enough to switch to the U.S. directory.

I think mine is with U.S. already, but I am not sure. That is sad, how come ?

Hmm I am still not sure if it is good or bad but I guess this will make rather big impact on SEO factors and rankings for the UK... So will not be surprised if some websites that are taking top positions on their main keywords will move down in rankings...

Well, although the sites admins and those business managers will still be able to use the US section of Yahoo directory, but the main issue is that unlike Google that is constantly expanding their net services, Yahoo may be thinking about renovations.

This is a sad news for me but updating yahoo subscribers is not that bad. Least, they are giving heads-up on whats gonna happen. We just have to consider our options.

This is unfortunate but on the other hand, it's good that there's an alternative and we can still maintain our listing through the US based directory.
